There are three primary types of magic, each associated with one of the Creators of Faerie. Descendant races typically have magic that favors their associated Creator, but not always.
Blood Magic[]
Blood Magic is the ability to tell something about a person through the scent or taste of their blood. Dóchas Sidhe have blood magic as their only talent, while the Daoine Sidhe are gifted in both blood magic and illusions. The Baobhan Sith are also bloodworkers, although they don't use blood magic the same way.
- Identify the balance of blood: Determine whether a person is a pureblood or changeling, and what race they come from.[1][2] While a useful skill, it is not limited to the Daoine or Dóchas - for example, Cu Sidhe can also smell the balance of the blood.[3]
- Mimic the magic of the blood's source: The sprite that Evening Winterrose summoned was able to use her blood to make bargains in her stead for at least a day, for example.[4]
- Riding the Blood: specific to the Daoine and Dochas Sidhe. The ability to experience what has happened to the dead by tasting the memories in the blood.[5] This magic can be dangerous, because it "skips the brain and goes straight for the gut."[5] It can be extremely unpleasant, since the user will feel the emotions and hear the thoughts of the dead, and the effects can linger.[5] "Riding the blood isn’t an exact art: bits and pieces can linger for days, their secrets shaking loose like sand through a sieve." [3]
- Borrow other people's magic: Done by tasting their blood. The Baobhan Sith can also use it to borrow people's appearance.[6][7]

Water Magic[]
Water magic tends to focus towards transformation and healing and is mainly the purview of fae of Maeve's line.[19] Lily and Elliot have been prime examples of the former, both having healed Toby and others on several occasions by dousing them in water. The Luidaeg and the false Queen of the Mists primarily focus on the latter, having transformed Toby's clothing - and in some cases Toby herself - at various times.[20]
Note that water magic is not limited to sea fae.

Flower Magic[]
Flower magic tends to focus on illusions and wards and is mainly the purview of fae of Titania's line.[19] As the children of Titania, the Daoine Sidhe have been repeatedly noted to have an affinity for illusions. Strangely, the alchemy that Walther Davies uses - and that Tylwyth Teg like him are noted for - is said by the Luidaeg to be flower magic, while Tylwyth Teg are of Maeve's line. This seems to indicate that the division of magics is not entirely consistent.[20]

Characters who perform significant flower magic.

- Eira Rosynhwyr: As the inspiration for the Snow White myth, Eira is skilled at fracturing appearances and making people see what she wants them to - including pretending to be dead.[19]

- Cailin (younger): Despite her Daoine Sidhe ancestry being removed by a Hope Chest, Cailin is able to cast strong illusions that can fool even her family.[25]
Associated Fae Types[]
- Daoine Sidhe: Typically skilled at illusion magic; when Toby thought she was Daoine Sidhe and useless at illusions, she considered her magic weak and faulty. [8]
